How to Edit or Delete a Scheduled Post on X, and What You Can Change After It Posts (2026)
Can you edit a scheduled post on X?
Yes, until it goes out. On x.com, open the post composer, choose Unsent posts, then the Scheduled tab, and click the post: you can change its text, media, date and time, then schedule it again. To delete it, choose Edit on that list, tick the post and press Delete. Once a scheduled post is live, the rules change: editing a published post is an X Premium feature, limited to the first hour and up to five edits, and some post types cannot be edited at all. This guide covers both stages, what to do in other tools, and the mistakes that make a “fixed” post go out wrong anyway.
Before vs after it posts: what you can change
| Stage | What you can do | Who can do it | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled, not yet sent | Edit text, media, date and time, or delete it | Any account that scheduled it | x.com composer: Unsent posts, Scheduled |
| Published, first hour | Edit text or reorder media, up to five times | X Premium subscribers, for eligible posts | The post’s menu: Edit post |
| Published, after one hour | Delete only; no edit | Anyone | The post’s menu: Delete |
| Queued in a third-party tool | Whatever that tool allows before its send time | Depends on the tool | The tool’s own queue |
The practical rule follows from the table: fix a scheduled post before its send time. An edit after publishing depends on a subscription, a time window and the post type, and the edited post shows an “edited” label with its history.
How to edit a scheduled post on x.com
- Open the composer. Click Post in the sidebar, the same way you would write a new post.
- Open Unsent posts. At the top of the composer, choose Unsent posts, then the Scheduled tab. Drafts sit on the other tab.
- Click the post you want to change. It opens in the composer with its text and media.
- Change the content or the time. Edit the text or media; to move it, click the schedule (calendar) icon and pick a new date, time and time zone, then Confirm.
- Schedule it again. Press Schedule (the button replaces Post) so the change is saved.
How-To Geek and Hootsuite describe the same path, and it is the one X documents for the web composer. X’s help pages for the iOS and Android apps do not describe scheduling, so check on x.com if the app does not show the Scheduled tab; our guide to scheduling posts in the X app on iPhone and Android covers the phone side.
How to delete or cancel a scheduled post
From the same Scheduled tab, choose Edit at the top right, tick one or more posts, press Delete, and confirm. A deleted scheduled post is gone; there is no undo, so copy the text first if you might reuse it. If you only want it later, open it and change the date instead of deleting.
Two situations call for deleting rather than editing. First, a time-sensitive post whose moment has passed, like a reminder for an event that was moved. Second, a post that repeats something you already published: X’s automation rules ban duplicative or substantially similar posts on one account, and our list of eight reasons a scheduled post did not go out on X includes duplicates among the causes.
After it posts: X’s Edit post rules
X’s help center describes Edit post as a feature for X Premium subscribers. After you publish an original post or a quote, you have one hour to edit it, with up to five edits in that window. The edited post carries a label, and anyone can open its edit history. The rules that catch people out:
- Not every post can be edited. X lists replies, polls, promoted posts, pinned posts, threads and posts from a third-party service among the types that cannot be edited right now.
- Edit from the same device. X says a post can only be edited from the device it was sent from.
- A reply to your own post locks it. Once you reply to your post, the original can no longer be edited.
- Without Premium, delete and repost. That loses any likes and replies the first version collected, which is why fixing before the send time matters.
Because X does not define “posts from a third-party service” in detail, assume a post published by a scheduling app may not be editable afterwards, even on Premium.
Editing posts queued in Telegram with Auto X
Auto X is a Telegram bot by GSPTeck (our product) that schedules and auto-publishes the text and media posts you send it to X. Its queue lives in the chat, not in X’s Unsent posts list, so a post scheduled through the bot is changed in the bot:
- Type /queue to see what is pending, with the send time of each post.
- Cancel the post that needs fixing, then send the corrected text and schedule it for the same time.
- The bot messages you when a post is live, so you know the moment the “before it posts” window has closed.
Honest comparison: if you schedule one post at a time from a laptop, X’s own Scheduled tab is simpler and needs no third party. Auto X suits people who plan posts from a phone in Telegram and want the queue in a chat; plans and setup are on the Auto X homepage, with the Telegram bot one tap away. Teams that want a second pair of eyes before anything is queued can add a review step, as in our guide to approval gates for Telegram-to-X posting.
Five mistakes when changing a scheduled post
- Editing without pressing Schedule again. Closing the composer can leave the post as it was. Reopen the Scheduled tab and check the text and time.
- Moving the time in the wrong zone. The date picker has its own time zone setting; a launch post moved to “9:00” in the wrong zone goes out hours off. Our guide to time zones and quiet hours for scheduled posts has a checklist.
- Leaving a stale link. If the page you link to moved, fix the link before the send time; a published post without Premium cannot be corrected in place.
- Deleting when you meant to postpone. Change the date instead, so you keep the text and media.
- Counting on Edit post for a scheduled post. The one-hour window starts at publishing, and a post sent by a third-party app may not be editable at all.
FAQ
Where do I find my scheduled posts on X?
On x.com, open the post composer, choose Unsent posts and then the Scheduled tab. Every post waiting to go out is listed there with its date and time.
Can I change the time of a scheduled post?
Yes. Open the post from the Scheduled tab, click the schedule icon, pick a new date and time, confirm, and press Schedule to save the change.
Can I edit a post after it is published without Premium?
No. Edit post is an X Premium feature with a one-hour window and up to five edits. Without it, the only option is to delete the post and publish a corrected one.
Does editing a scheduled post affect its reach?
X does not say that editing a post before it is sent changes anything. The post is published as a normal post at the new time with the new text.
