Can You Schedule a Repost on X? What Works Instead, and What the Rules Allow (2026)

Can you schedule a repost on X?

Not natively. X’s own scheduler works on posts you write: a new post, or a quote post with your own comment on top. A plain repost is a one-tap action that happens the moment you tap it, and there is no date picker behind the repost button. Circleboom, which sells an auto-retweet feature, puts it plainly in its own guide: X “has never supported” retweeting on a schedule. What you can do is schedule a quote post, schedule a fresh post that links to the original, or use a third-party tool that reposts through X’s API. This guide covers those three routes, what X’s automation rules allow for each, and the mistakes that get a recurring repost flagged as duplicate content.

Repost, quote post, or new post: what each one is

ActionWhat followers seeCan X’s own scheduler time it?Best use
Repost (formerly retweet)The original post, unchanged, with “you reposted” above itNo: it happens when you tapSharing someone else’s post as it is, right now
Quote postYour comment with the original embedded underneathYes, from the composer, like any postResharing with context: a reminder, a reply, a testimonial
New post with a linkYour text; a pasted post link is usually shown as an embedded postYesPointing back to an older post or thread with fresh wording
Third-party auto-repostA normal repost, sent later by an appNot X’s scheduler: the app reposts through the APIResurfacing your own posts after a delay

The difference matters for more than mechanics. A repost adds no words, so it adds nothing new for people who already saw the original. A quote post or a fresh post gives followers a reason to look again, and it is the version every scheduler can handle.

Route 1: schedule a quote post (the native way)

Buffer’s guide to scheduling on X describes the steps: open the original post, tap the repost icon, choose Quote, write your comment, then use the schedule (calendar) icon to pick a date and time before confirming. The quote then waits under Unsent posts, Scheduled, with your other scheduled posts, where you can edit or delete it until it goes out.

Route 2: schedule a new post that links to the original

Copy the original post’s link (Share, then Copy link), write a new post around it, and schedule that post in any tool that publishes text, including a Telegram scheduler. X usually renders a pasted post link as an embedded post, so readers see the original under your words. This route has two advantages over a quote: it works from tools that cannot open the quote composer, and you can queue several differently worded versions for different days.

Keep each version genuinely different. X’s automation rules ban “duplicative or substantially similar” posts on one account, and the same link with the same sentence every Monday is exactly that. Our rules for evergreen post loops scheduled from Telegram show how to rotate copy so a recurring reminder stays within the rules.

Route 3: a third-party auto-repost tool

Some tools offer a real scheduled repost. Circleboom, for example, describes an “Auto Retweeter” that reposts your own posts after a set delay, set either when you create the post or later from its analytics. Tools like this post through X’s API with access you grant, so the same questions apply as for any scheduler: what exactly will it do on your account, can you see and cancel what it has queued, and can you revoke its access in X’s connected apps settings.

Before granting access, read what X’s rules allow for automated reposts specifically. Our summary of what X’s automation rules allow and ban covers the full list; the repost part is below.

What X’s automation rules say about automated reposts

The automation rules permit automated Reposts and Quote posts “for entertainment, informational, or novelty purposes”, and they warn that bulk, aggressive or spammy Reposting violates the X Rules. In practice that means:

  1. Resurfacing your own post once, later, is fine. A launch post reposted the morning of the launch is informational.
  2. Reposting the same post on a tight loop is not. Daily automated reposts of one post look like spam to followers and to X.
  3. Reposting other people’s posts by keyword or trend is not. The rules ban automation that reacts to trending topics or keyword searches.
  4. You are responsible for the tool. X states that you are ultimately responsible for actions taken by applications associated with your account.

Doing it from Telegram with Auto X

Auto X is a Telegram bot by GSPTeck (our product) that schedules and auto-publishes the text and media posts you send it to X. It does not press X’s repost button for you, and we do not claim it does. What it handles well is Route 2:

Honest comparison: for a one-off quote with a comment, X’s own composer is simpler and needs no third party. Auto X is the better fit when you already plan posts in Telegram, schedule from an Android phone, or want a queue you can manage by chat. Plans and setup are on the Auto X homepage, with the Telegram bot one tap away.

Four mistakes that make a scheduled reshare fail

  1. Same words, again. Repeating the text of a recent post can be rejected as a duplicate; our guide to why a scheduled post did not go out on X lists this among eight causes.
  2. The original was deleted. If the author deletes the post, a quote or link shows it as unavailable. Check before the send time for anything that matters.
  3. Protected accounts. Posts from protected accounts cannot be shown to people who do not follow them, so they make poor material for a reshare.
  4. Time zones. A reminder that goes out after the event is worse than none. Check the zone the tool uses.

FAQ

Can I schedule a retweet on X without another app?

No. X’s scheduler handles posts you write, including quote posts, but a plain repost happens immediately when you tap it. Schedule a quote post instead if you want to stay inside X.

Is auto-reposting allowed on X?

Automated reposts are allowed for entertainment, informational or novelty purposes. Bulk, aggressive or spammy reposting breaks the X Rules, and so does reposting by keyword or trending topic.

Does a quote post get the same reach as a repost?

X does not publish a rule that treats them differently. A quote post is a new post with your words, so followers who already saw the original have a reason to engage again.

Can a Telegram bot repost for me?

Auto X publishes posts you send it, so it can publish a new post that links to the original at a set time. It does not press the repost button on your behalf.
